UPDATE: CedarPark PD announced Friday morning that its identified the other driver of the truck involved in fatal accident that killed 2 children thanks to the media and citizens' assistance. We'll add updates once they become available.

CEDAR PARK, Texas — Cedar Park police have made an arrest in a fatal crash that claimed the lives of two children and left their mother in a coma. 

Police identified the driver as Hayden Michael Hammer, age 18, and arrested him for two counts of racing on highway causing death.

On Wednesday, Jan. 10, at approximately 3:45 p.m., Cedar Park police received multiple reports of an accident with injury on W. Whitestone Boulevard and Walton Way. Upon arrival, officers discovered a collision between a black 2008 Dodge Ram pickup truck and a 2016 Nissan Rogue.

The female driver of the Nissan has been identified as Zara Salman, age 32, who remains in a coma in critical condition at the hospital.

The two children in the Nissan were pronounced dead on scene. They were identified as Daniel Chaudhary, age 1, and Elijah Chaudhary, age 8. Salman was the biological mother of Daniel the stepmother of Elijah. 

The Cedar Park Police Department Accident Investigation Team conducted a preliminary on-site investigation as well as a reconstruction of the crash and based on the evidence and information gathered thus far from witnesses and nearby surveillance video, investigators determined the driver of the Dodge Ram pickup truck was racing another truck in the westbound lanes of W. Whitestone prior to crashing into the Nissan, which was turning left onto Walton Way.

Hammer's charges are a second-degree felony. He will be booked into the Williamson County Jail.
