MEXIA, Texas — Law enforcement from throughout the state will soon gather together to say goodbye to one of their own.

Department of Public Safety trooper Damon Allen, who was shot and killed on Thanksgiving, will be laid to rest Friday morning.

Investigators would still be searching for the man who killed trooper Damon Allen if it weren't for one special deputy — His name is Odin, a K9 with the Waller County Sheriff's Office.

He will stand guard by trooper Allen's casket later this morning.

Odin, and his partner, Deputy Andrew Blauser, tracked down the man who gunned down the trooper late Thanksgiving night. They were able to take him down without incident.

Since then, Odin was named "Employee of the Year" by the sheriff's office. Now, Odin is a gift that keeps on giving — He was donated by the group, K9s4COPs, which helps law enforcement obtain trained K9s at no cost.

"To know that we had an impact and we had given that dog 6 months ago, and that he was able to make that take down for that department, it makes your heart warm to know that everything's, God has a great plan and it's going the way it should,” said Kristi Schiller.
