CANDANDAIGUA, N.Y. -- Police said the young man whose body was found Saturday morning inside a Canandaigua apartment complex following a fire lived inside the apartment.

Nicholas Bice, 21, was identified Tuesday by police, who are still investigating.

Fire crews were called in around 11 a.m. after a report of smoke in a room at Camelot Square Apartments. When crews got there, they found a small fire inside one of the rooms, which they put out quickly. Bice's body was then discovered.

"At this point, I can tell you we are actively investigating that scene first as an arson, and second as a homicide," Canandaigua Police Chief Stephen Hedworth said on Monday.

Police say no one was charged in connection immediately after the fire, or in the days since.
