Rochester Musicians Hold "If Music Be The Food" to Feed the Hungry

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- A local group of musicians once again turned classical melodies into food for the less fortunate.

"If Music Be The Food" is a yearly event put on by the Eastman School of Music to gather supplies for Rochester's Foodlink.

Each year, a group of musicians puts together a unique show that includes different combinations of instruments.

This year, there was a flute and guitar duo, and a string quintet performance including Grammy Award-winning violist Kim Kashkashian.

Event Director Carol Rodland says the idea has been well-received.

"It's really spread across the country. We now have eight other, If Music Be The Food, series across the country. People are really into this idea of helping your neighbors through music," said Carol Rodland, director.

Each spectator was asked to bring one non-perishable food item or to give a small donation to Foodlink for admission.
