The first Friday Night Matchup of 2018 will feature Canandaigua at Webster Schroeder. Coverage begins live on Spectrum News at 7 p.m.

It's Schroeder's first game in Class A after dropping down from Class AA. The Warriors also have a new head coach in Mike Stumpf. The Schroeder grad started coaching the Warriors at the modified level in 2003, and by last season, he worked the sidelines as an assistant at the varsity level.

The Warriors haven't matched up with the Braves in some time, making scouting virtually a non-factor in this one.

"We didn't really see a lot of them in a long time, I think the last time we saw Canandaigua was '09," said Stumpf. "But they're very well coached; we've been watching a lot of their film from last year. Of course some of their guys are gone. But I feel like they're going to have a good team, they're going to work hard."

Canandaigua said they have focused on their offensive strengths as they prepared for the game. Starting quarterback Jack Johnson returns, along with several notable wide receivers.

"We want to play off our experience, we have some experience at our quarterback spot. We also have some receivers that had some success last year. Initially, those are our go to guys and that's what we're going to plan around," said Canandaigua Coach Jeff Welch.

Stumpf on the other hand, admits his team may not pass the eye test, but says they are focused on their agility and up-tempo pace.

"We haven't been big in a while. Big doesn't always mean bad, so we try to get that in their minds that they can compete against bigger, tougher, stronger kids," said Stumpf.
