The Buffalo Sabres have named defenseman Rasmus Dahlin as their next captain.

The All-Star blueliner led the team in points last season with 59, and has been an alternate captain the past two years.

Dahlin, 24, is entering his seventh season with the team after being drafted first overall in the 2018 NHL Draft.

“He does everything right, first and foremost,” Head Coach Lindy Ruff said in a statement. “His on-ice action has been incredible, and I think he’s a guy that leads in every category, from the way he prepares himself to the way he plays and the fact that he’s a guy who cares about winning hockey games.”

Forwards Alex Tuch, Tage Thompson, Dylan Cozens and defenseman Mattias Samuelsson will serve as alternate captains.
