ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Local veterans are honoring a Marine from Rochester who died one hundred years ago.

American Legion Post 603 Cooper Marines commemorated the centennial anniversary of the death of William Cooper Wednesday at Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Sergeant Cooper was killed in action on July 18, 1918 in France. The American Legion Marine Post is named in his honor.

"It makes you think back to how young those boys were and how young the men today are that are going off to war and placed in harms’ way,” said Carol Miller with the American Legion. “It kind of makes you a little sad."

His grave is in the World War I Section of Mt. Hope Cemetery.
