WEBSTER N.Y. – The memories collected at the Webster's Joe Obbie Farmers' Market are some that can be shared over a lifetime.

Mylee Dondiz, Webster says she loves going to the Farmers' Market.

“I think there’s something different every time I come and that’s what brings me back,” said Dondiz.

Also at the Market was Pat Obbie, the wife of Joe Obbie. She spoke about how he started the Farmers' Market 38 years ago in the village.

“It was a very small market. I think we only had 3 vendors,” said Pat.

With live entertainment, vendors also sold baked goods, meats, soap, flowers, and much more.

Over the years, Pat says the market grew and so did their family. She said, “We were also foster parents for 22 years.”  The Obbie’s adopted 3 of their 7 children.

Pat also explains how Joe was a Xerox employee for years and even with a stable career he enjoyed farming.

“Even though it was a small farm he loved it and our specialty was garlic. In fact my license plate is garlic in Italian,” she said before chuckling.

Every week Pat says she comes to the market in her husband’s memory.

Opening Day of the Farmers' Market kicked off Saturday and will continue starting every Saturday morning through October from 8:30 to 1 PM.
