ROCHESTER, N.Y. — It was a busy Mother's Day at the public market as families bought flowers for their mothers and grandmothers.

One family leaves the grandchildren at home for the first part of the day so they can spend quality mother and daughter time. For the last seven years Anita Veltre and her two daughters have enjoyed a morning of breakfast followed by an afternoon shopping for flowers.

“The time is one-on-one with my daughters, which with all of their children and all of the running around they do, this is the time we just focus and be together and get flowers. It’s the perfect time,” said Veltre.

She says as her daughters have gotten older, the anticipation for Mother’s Day has grown and it's all about simply spending time together.

“They’re a little bit older and I’m a little bit older. It’s that one-on-one time that you lose contact with. When they’re little, you’re with them all the time, but now they have their lives and children and soccer games and I live on Canandaigua Lake, so I’m a little distant. This is very special time right now. The present is special,” added Veltre.

She says there’s no gift that matches time spent together.
