A Rochester-based tech executive and attorney confirmed to Spectrum News that he is one of more than a dozen candidates interviewing for the state attorney general position.

Alex Zapesochny previously ran i-Cardiac, a medical tech company that had its roots at the University of Rochester.

He is temporarily working for ERT, the company that purchased i-Cardiac.

Zapesochny tells us he is an independent with no affiliation to a political party, which he says it important in a legal position like attorney general.

He has previous experience as a prosecutor but feels with his background in tech and healthcare, he can bring a lot more to the job.

“Myself, actually as a technology entrepreneur and innovator, I think I will have a much better understanding of how to position the office, to not be behind the times, but to really anticipate the sort of issues that we've now seen on the news,” said Zapesochny.

Zapesochny is one of 17 people who will be interviewed this next week in Albany by a bi-partisan committee of assembly members and senators.

The list of candidates includes current assembly members and Barbara Underwood, the acting state attorney general.
