HAMLIN, N.Y. — The Department of Transportation is planning to repair and repave a stretch of the Lake Ontario State Parkway between Hamlin and Kendall.

Improvements to the deteriorating Parkway are set to begin Monday. State DOT officials say it will repair both eastbound and westbound lanes of the parkway — a repair of about 30 lane miles.

The $5.2 million road project will include rehabbing and resurfacing the parkway between Rt. 19 in Hamlin to Rt. 237 in Kendall, Orleans County — a stretch of about 7.5 miles is full of pot-holes and chunks of missing concrete.

"Once we overlay the concrete with a nice five inch layer of asphalt we will do some pavement markings and upgrades to the signs," said Jordan Guerrein, NYSDOT spokesperson. "We hope that people will want to use the Parkway. That's our goal, that is our intent. We want to make this a safer, more reliable use and provide access for not only motorists but businesses and emergency services to use this road safely."

The parkway will remain open to traffic during the project but motorists should expect one lane of travel in each direction along with some short-term ramp closures.

Access to Hamlin Beach State Park will be maintained throughout the project.

The DOT expects the parkway project here to be finished up sometime this fall.
