Monroe County Sheriff Todd Baxter discussed his office's role in combating the opioid crisis at Trillium Health on Monday.

Baxter talked about the importance of law enforcement's role in the opioid crisis as a part of the Roc Families in Recovery's educational meetings on addiction.

He says law enforcement needs to stabilize the situation.

In March, there were 10 opioid overdose deaths, according to the Monroe County Heroin Task Force.

"There's a lot of families dealing with addiction in Monroe County,” said S.O.A.R.S. Human Services Specialist Becky Baker. “I think we're struggling with people getting into treatment and getting detox beds. I think it's a real issue in our county."

The Roc Families In Recovery hosts guests speakers every first and third Monday of the month at Trillium Health.
