ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Local immigrant rights activists are demanding bus companies stop what they say is a daily presence of Border Patrol agents on Rochester buses.

Allies of the Rochester Rapid Response Network want Greyhound to prevent border patrol from going on buses to find and detain undocumented immigrants without warrants.

They hope they can push county leaders to get involved.

"What we're trying to encourage is a reflection on our current laws that are in place," said Justin Delinois, University of Rochester student. "Our hope is that we can come to a consensus that respects people's dignity. It's less of a question of what law is on the books, but more of a question of making sure that we as people are upholding the basic human dignities that we all deserve."

Activists also delivered a letter to Greyhound from the New York Civil Liberties Union and nine other ACLU affiliates, asking the company to protect customers from racial profiling.
