ROCHESTER, N.Y. — For those who haven't gotten their flu shot yet, now would be a good time.

There are now 100 confirmed cases of the flu in Monroe County, this time last year the county had 14.

The New York State health department says the flu is now prevalent across the state. Officials recommend anyone six months of age or older get a flu vaccination to protect themselves.

Influenza is a serious illness that can cause mild to severe symptoms and lead to hospitalization or even death.

Flu season peaked much later last year.

Keep in mind it takes about two weeks for the vaccine to take effect and good hand washing will also offer protection against germs.
