Congressman John Katko talked tax reform Monday in his home district before heading back to Washington.

Katko joined close to a dozen small business owners and local manufacturers for a discussion on the impact of tax reform on Central New York’s workforce and economy.

Katko defended his ‘yes’ vote on the GOP tax cut plan by saying it will allow local businesses to invest more, hire more and to also bring back jobs from overseas.

Opponents of the bill say it won't really help the middle class, but Katko disagrees.

"Ask me that question in January when people are filling out their W2s and they realize ‘I have a lot more money in my pocket. I don't have to take out as much.’ For example, a family of four making $55,000 their federal tax liability will be virtually nothing," he said.

Katko also said he's convinced the plan will benefit most taxpayers in Central New York and help businesses across the state grow under a lower corporate tax rate of 20 percent.
