ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- A taxi cab crashed near the Liberty Pole late Tuesday night after the driver was cut during an apparent robbery.

Police say the 69-year-old driver tried to take off when the person he was dropping off in his cab tried to rob him.

He eventually crashed into a parked car on Liberty Pole Way.

They say he was cut several times in the upper body and was taken from the scene to Strong Memorial Hospital where he is expected to recover.

The suspect, 47-year old Eugene Hutchings of Rochester, fled the scene, but was arrested by police a short time later near the Elk Hotel on North Clinton Avenue.

He is charged with assault and attempted robbery.
