MARION, N.Y. — Marion junior Chloe DeLyser is nearing a milestone just four games into the soccer season.

The Ohio State commit is at 193 career goals. The Section V record is 195, set by Stephany Ellison of Whitesville in 2010.

DeLyser is committed to her team mainly because nearly half of them are family.

“Sarah Lange is a cousin, Lani Taylor is a cousin, Abby DeFisher is a cousin, Caroline Williams is a cousin and then Abby Marotta is Chloe's sister. My grandmother was one of 17 and all of them resided in this area so I have multiple cousins, I've coached multiple cousins,” says Lori DeLyser, Marion's athletic director, girls soccer coach and Chloe's cousin. Assistant coach Rob Marotta is Chloe's step-father.

"Soccer in my family's sort of a big deal. We all play soccer, we watch the Premier League, we watch college soccer, so, yeah, everything's soccer in my household," says DeLyser.

The last two summers, Chloe has played with the Western New York Flash with players such as Brighton grad Charlotte Williams, Penfield's Grace Murphy, Schroeder's Anna Hewlett and Ohio State sophomore Maddy Lowe. The Schroeder grad and DeLyser are good friends and it's part of the reason DeLyser committed to the Buckeyes.

For now, Marion is the defending Class C2 soccer Champion and is eyeing a state championship, like the one the Black Knights won back in 2010.

"We're gonna take it one game at a time, let's try to win a league title first, try to win a sectional title second and then we'll go after the states," says Coach DeLyser.

"Really, my team goals are more important to me because, my team, we work really hard and it's a lot of fun with them,” Chloe added.

Marion hosts Williamson on Tuesday and then travels to Sodus on Thursday.
