SPRINGWATER, N.Y. -- A Livingston County man who stands accused of throwing his 22-week-old son against a wall was previously arrested on rape charges, according to prosecutors.

Matthew Sackett, 22, faces charges of assault and reckless assault of a child. Livingston County District Attorney Greg McCaffrey confirms Sackett was previously charged with rape in Livingston and Steuben counties. The case in Livingston County was closed and Sackett was placed on probation.

McCaffrey says Sackett is accused of causing skull fractures, broken ribs and other broken bones to the infant. The boy is at a Rochester hospital.

Sackett was taken to the Livingston County Jail , where bail was set at $75,000.

Child Protective Services and the Livingston County Department of Social Services have joined deputies in the investigation.
