ROCHESTER, N.Y. — City of Rochester officials have reached an "amicable settlement" with the owners of the Rochester Rhinos to keep the soccer team at Capelli Sport Stadium through 2018.

The soccer club will have to commit to fielding a team for the 2019 season by September 1st or forfeit their rights to the stadium.

The soccer team announced in the fall that it would not be fielding a team for the 2018 season due to financial issues. The owners said they still planned to host several other events at Capelli Stadium.

The city claimed the team broke its lease agreement and would be evicted. In a statement to Spectrum News Thursday afternoon, city officials confirmed that they have received some informal inquiries to buy and repurpose the stadium, but are not actively pursuing those options at this time.

According to the owners David and Wendy Dworkin, the Rhinos will pay the city $40,000 in addition to their $50,000 rent, while also paying an alcohol surcharge.

There will be 4 professional soccer matches at Capelli Sports Stadium this season, with the first taking place on Saturday, May 5th, between Toronto FC and  the Pittsburgh Riverhounds.
