IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. — More than $2 million in state money is on the way to help transform the former Irondequoit Mall into a Town of Irondequoit Community Center.

The funding, more than $1 million from the Assembly and $1 million from the Senate, will be used to transform approximately 50,000 square feet of what's now called "Skyview on the Ridge" into a community facility

Developers will use the rest of the space for tenants, offices, a fitness center and even anchor stores.

Irondequoit Supervisor Dave Seeley (D) says space is what's needed.

"That's our barrier to moving forward with things we want to do with our recreation [program], so space about all gives us more opportunity," Seeley said.

The town continues to seek community input on the design of the community center.

Seeley says it isn't yet known what if any impact the project will have on taxpayers.
