If you live in Orange County and have been asking about a smell in the air, you are not alone.
The Orange County health commissioner said the department was looking into reports of a strange smell and residue found on cars in the area, but had not determined the cause.
The state Department of Environmental Conservation was also investigating the mysterious odors.
"DEC staff determined that the odors are strongest in Orange County, indicating a localized source," DEC tweeted Friday evening. "No imminent public health or environmental threat was detected based on initial air readings taken by DEC."
DEC continues to investigate.
No imminent public health or environmental threat was detected based on initial air readings taken by DEC. We will continue to update the community as the investigation progresses.
