Authorities confirm the body found in the Hudson River this week is that of 49-year-old Paul Moschitta, the swimmer who went missing last month.

Poughkeepsie City Police say the Dutchess County Medical Examiner's Office identified the body as Moschitta Thursday.

The body was recovered Tuesday, a week after he went missing.

The sheriff's office says Moschitta went into the Hudson near Waryas Park while trying to help a swimmer struggling to stay afloat. That swimmer was safely rescued, but Maschitta did not resurface.

Multiple agencies took part in a nearly weeklong for Moschitta, both above and below the surface of the Hudson before suspending efforts Sunday night.
