The Friday Night Matchup will pin V-V-S and Oneida against each other on a must-win evening for the Red Devils. Oneida will travel to VVS and look to spoil their turf opening at 7 p.m, a matchup you can catch live on Spectrum News.
The Red Devils started off with a 4-0 record, but have dropped the last two so they’re now in the middle of Class B East pack. Although they’re 4-2, they still can control their own destiny and clinch a playoff berth with a win over the Indians.
If they lose, they need Camden to also lose to CVA to still get into the playoffs. It’s Homecoming for VVS, who will also be playing their first game on their brand new home turf. With a new field plus playoffs on the line, they’re expecting a packed house for the occasion.
“It’s a big day for us. It’s a big day for the community, and for the school. So I think we’re going to come out with some fire,” VVS senior Alex Oliver said at practice this week.
Six miles away, the Indians have been excited about their turnaround season. Last year, Oneida had a 3-5 record and missed the playoffs.
On Friday, they have a chance to clinch a share of the league title with a victory, and spoil the turf opening of their rivals. Indians senior Bruce Joslyn spoke about the rivalry at practice on Thursday. “We don’t like losing to VVS. There’s a lot on the line.”
It’ll be an exciting scene at VVS when the Indians come into town. Tune in to Spectrum News on Friday to watch.
