A new plaque was dedicated in Oswego's Veterans Memorial Park Sunday. It lists the names of everyone from the county who lost their life fighting in World War I.

Nearly 100 veterans and community members came out to remember those who fought for freedom 100 years ago. The ceremony began with local Girl Scouts singing, God Bless America, and ended with taps.

Organizers say it reflects the importance of Oswego in the first world war.

"It was something that has always been honored here in the community," said Mark Slosek, Oswego City historian. "Since it's the 100th year, we thought we would do something special for all of the families from oswego who served their country during that war."

Just down the road at SUNY Oswego, another plaque was unveiled in honor of Jesse Hewitt, the first Oswego student to die in World War I.
