Opening Day brought a special honor for a longtime leader in Central New York.

Governor Cuomo helped unveil a new sign for the Pan-African Village, now renamed to recognize former Syracuse Common Council President Van Robinson.

In addition to his service for the city, Robinson has also been a leader in New York's civil rights movement. He says he's honored to be recognized and that he won't stop working to improve the community.

"We still have a long ways to go when it comes to race relations in Central New York,” said Robinson. “But by God, I know I'm going to be out there, and I invite each and every one of you to be out there to help us crack that ceiling, so we can say my home is a home of diversity and the future."
