A jury has found the South Glens Falls School District was negligent but not ultimately not resposible for the suicide of Jacobe Taras.

The verdict comes after Jacobe Taras' parents sued the school district, claiming administrators didn't take the proper action to stop their son from being bullied. The jury found the school district not guilty on the wrongful death count.

The 13-year-old Taras committed suicide in 2015. His parents say they found a note from him saying he was being bullied.

Jacobe's parents have also been pushing for lawmakers to approve an anti-bullying bill named in his honor. Currently, schools are required to report instances of bullying to the State Education Department. If Jacobe's Law is passed, schools would also be required to tell the parents of the bullying victim.

Jacobe's parents say had they known he was being bullied, they could have intervened to save their only child's life.

The State Senate has approved the bill, which is in committee in the Assembly.
