A local manufacturer agrees Glenville is the place to be.

Specialty Quality Packaging is pouring $8 million back into its operation. Governor Andrew Cuomo announced the Glenville-based company will expand, and business advocates say it couldn't have come at a better time.

"Any time you make that investment in community with sales tax and all the things that come along with that, it trickles down into the restaurants and into the stores and the other local businesses here, and that's going to help boost the whole area," said Glenville Supervisor Chris Koetzle.

SPQ has been around since the 1980s, specializing in biodegradable food containers. They decided to put down roots in the Glenville Technology Business Park in 2006, and when it came time for President Adam Epstein to expand his company, he says he didn't think twice on a location.

"We had some other opportunities to look in other locations and chose to stay here," Epstein said.

"This is just another example of people coming back to the business technology park and making it their home," Koetzle said.

Epstein says he plans on doubling his plant capacity by purchasing a facility next door. On top of that, he'll be adding 45 new jobs, ranging from packagers to managerial positions.

"We're going to get value out of it right away," Epstein said. "We need the space, we're growing and it's going to help us."

The governor also signed off on the good news, supporting their efforts with up to $900,000 in tax credits. Metroplex Development Authority will also be on hand to provide local assistance.

Special Quality Packaging plans on moving into to the new building within three to six months.
