The man accused of starting a devastating fire in Cohoes last November has pleaded guilty.

The Albany County District Attorney's Office says John Gomes pleaded guilty to arson.

Gomes admitted to setting the fire which led to nearly 30 buildings in the area of Remsen Street being destroyed or damaged.

Gomes started a fire outside his home in a barrel -- authorities say he was trying to build a home forge when his own house caught fire before spreading.

The DA's office says Gomes is facing a year at Albany County jail when he is sentenced next month.

They say he will also be ordered to pay restitution. That amount is still to be determined.
