The World Series is getting underway in Arlington, Texas, as the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Texas Rangers go head to head for Major League Baseball's top prize.
According to the Baseball Almanac, just more than 1,000 MLB players hailed from New York state in its history — and just more than 60 of those major leaguers are specifically from Buffalo, including Rangers starting catcher Jonah Heim.
Heim was originally drafted by the Baltimore Orioles before making his way to Arlington.
For him, it's a dream come true.
"I'm trying to justify it how a kid from Buffalo can get here,” said Heim. “But a lot of hard work. A lot of dedication. The love for the game. You have to truly love this game to have success in it. I'm truly blessed to be in this situation. Four wins away and we can call ourselves world champs. It's pretty special."
