Development on Buffalo's Outer Harbor is set to continue with the help of the Buffalo Billion.

How those funds will be used were discussed during a community meeting Monday, hosted by Our Outer Harbor Coalition, where residents were updated on the progress of the project.

The coalition also introduced a cultural and landscape study to help residents learn about the history of the site. The 97-page report shares how best to preserve the Outer Harbor's cultural integrity.

"It basically talks about the history — the human and natural history of the Outer Harbor and it gives us a context to understand what development has gone on here why it's gone on here and it will help us decide what to do next, " said Jay Burney, Our Outer Harbor Coalition.

The results of an Outer Harbor Public input survey by the state revealed residents want more green space, public access and less residential projects.

"We want to make sure that as the design proceeds, we protect people from severe weather, protect people from contamination and still let them sit and watch the sunset," said Lynda Schkneekloth,  Our Outer Harbor Coalition.

Schneekloth says the public meetings are an opportunity for residents to get involved in exactly what is developed on their waterfront.

The Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation will host its public meeting on November 19th at 5:30 p.m.
