BETHANY, N.Y. -- A man is dead after his car crashed into an ambulance on a Genesee County road overnight.

Deputies say a BMW driven by Syed Rahman of Williamsville crossed the center line, slamming head-on into an oncoming ambulance on Route 63 in the town of Bethany.

The 61-year-old died at the scene.

The ambulance driver and his passengers are members of the Bethany Volunteer Fire Department. 

They were returning the ambulance to the fire hall when the crash happened.

All three were taken to United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia for treatment of injuries that firefighters said were not serious. 

Officials haven't yet said what caused the crash.
