CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. — The crew at Dive Pool Systems is keeping busy.
Their product, a system that converts a chlorine pool into a salt pool, is now available to the public for the first time.
CEO and Founder Seyed Nurbakhsh says he's confident in the product because of its simplicity and cost.
"We're really the only device that doesn't need an electrician, doesn't need a power pack, and can be installed in an hour by the pool owner, so that's really a big selling point," he said.
Nurbakhsh says the device doesn't need a power source because of patented technology that he calls "the world's smallest hydroturbine."
"Basically, what you see in a hydrodam but in a really small scale and be really high efficiency."
Nurbakhsh says once the system is installed, it's easy to manage.
Just pour in some salt and use an app to regulate everything else. Pouring in chlorine and trying to balance pH levels manually is a thing of the past.
“We have a phone app that really lets you see what's going on with the product, the flow rate, the salt, the temperature of your water in real time, whether you're at home or travelling overseas,” Nurbakhsh said.
Toronto-based Dive Pool Systems was one of the 2016 winners of the 43North competition, securing a $500,000 award.
Nurbakhsh says 43North is great for a company like his that has a good idea but needs capital to bring it to fruition.
Even though Dive Pool Systems has moved into a new facility in Cheektowaga, 43North is still proving useful as they familiarize themselves with the American market.
"We get meetings that we otherwise would not get into, have people help us, even for our manufacturing, we had production advisors," Nurbakhsh said.
Nurbakhsh also says 43North was instrumental in helping the company move from its provided space at the Incubator to its 7,500- square-foot production facility.
If they continue to grow, they have the option to take over 20,000 square feet.
Nurbakhsh says with more than 10 million pools in America, he thinks they'll have that opportunity.
