AUSTIN, Texas — Protests over immigration issues at the border are taking place more than 200 miles away, right in the heart of Austin.
Youth Rise Texas organized a two-hour protest along I-35 Wednesday just east of the State Capitol.
The group wants the federal government to immediately reunite families who were separated after crossing the U.S. Mexico border.
A judge ruled Tuesday night that all families must be reunited within 30 days, but organizers say the policies that remain in place still trouble them.
"We want the government to do something about it instead of just keeping them in cages and keeping them detained whenever they are asking for help," said Jordy Balderas, Youth Rise Texas.

The nonprofit Southwest Key approved this week by the Texas Health and Human Service Commission to open another shelter to house migrant children.
A three-week review is underway now. Southwest Key is housing many of the migrant children currently in ICE custody.
