NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. -- Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand says the Stop Price Gouging Act will make prescription drugs more affordable for seniors.

“I'm going to fight to hold these drug companies accountable to end price gouging. You've seen over and over again when they charge a thousand dollars for an epipen, that is price gouging so, we want to make sure that practice ends and they are held accountable," said Gillibrand, D-New York.

Gillibrand says the legislation also calls for penalties against corporations that engage in price gouging and would reinvest those penalties into future drug research an development.

"Drug prices are out of control right now, and older New Yorkers are really suffering for it so, I think this is something that we must solve, it's incumbent upon us to solve, and I'm doing a number of things to fight this crisis," said Gillibrand.

Gillibrand is also sponsoring three other bills to increase access and affordability of medications for seniors.
