ARKWRIGHT, N.Y. - Construction on the Arkwright Summit Wind Farm project started last year, and has already logged more than 231-thousand man hours. Project leaders, EDP Renewables out of Texas, say there are close to a hundred crew members are on site, with many of them living out of town.

Area businesses in Fredonia and Dunkirk, namely hotels, restaurants and gas station convenience stores say the additional foot traffic has generated additional revenue. Business leaders say the boost helps retain jobs and bridges the gap between the winter and summer tourism season.

"If we didn't have these companies coming in and staying here at our hotel, we wouldn't be able to have the staff that we have and employ all the employees that we do, so we're very grateful for that," said Martha Frey, Clarion Hotel Food and Beverage Manager.

"The Arkwright Summit Wind Farm is pleased to provide economic benefits to the community and state of New York in the form of jobs, payments to local governments and landowners, and increased local spending and looks forward to providing clean, renewable energy for years to come," said a EDP Company Spokesperson.

The project is expected to be complete next month.
