Imagine taking Buffalo’s Metro Rail to Niagara Falls. Now imagine taking the same rail service up to Toronto.

That’s the vision Citizens for Regional Transit wants to make a reality.

The group is pushing to extend the current rail line from Buffalo to the American side of the falls.

That line could then be connected to another rail line being constructed between Niagara Falls, Ontario, and Toronto.

Leaders say connecting these cities would be a huge win for a variety of reasons.

"Niagara Falls is a major tourist mecca, getting more than 8 million tourists every year. Very few tourists find their way to Buffalo. And they could,” suggests Doug Funke, president of Citizens for Regional Transit.

The group says a 27-mile commuter rail line between Buffalo and Niagara Falls could be successfully developed for as little as $12 million.
