NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — A boil water notice is in effect for anyone living on Pine Avenue between Main and 10th Streets, including the Niagara and Spallino Tower apartments, in Niagara Falls.

That's after crews worked to fix a severe water main break near the intersection of 7th Street and Pine Avenue Wednesday night.

Officials believe the outage was due to the city's aging water infrastructure.

"We've been very fortunate in the sense that we haven't had very much cold weather, when cold weather hits it seems to be more of a problem but, right now it's basically just a pipe that's old and worn out," said Bob Drury, Niagara Falls Water Board superintendent of operations.

Boiled or bottled water should be used for any household needs until further notice.

The Niagara Falls Water Board says they're planning to send out water samples for testing to confirm the water's quality.
