BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Buffalo is coming together to celebrate the Americans with Disabilities Act with a Disability Pride Parade and Festival Saturday.
It's the 27th anniversary of the ADA that was signed into law on July 26, 1990, when discrimination against people with disabilities became illegal.
On land, there were two Disability Pride Parades that wrapped around downtown Buffalo along with other family activities, free food, music and guests who can speak personally on the ADA.
At Canalside there was sailing and other fun water activities to do with with Western New York Adaptive Water Sports.
"I can't tell you how rewarding it is," said Gale Nowak, WNY Adaptive Water Sports boardmember. "We have people from all the different spectrums of disabilities, we have veterans, we have folks in wheelchairs, with prosthetics, the mentally disabled and we even have folks from transitional services, some of the geriatrics; I mean it's just, it's incredible."
Organizers and other local collaborating agencies expected more than 1,200 participants. The first 250 people to the festival received two free tickets to a Bison’s home game.
