YOUNGSTOWN, N.Y. -- A Niagara County history buff believes he stumbled upon the surprise of a lifetime at an estate sale.

A historically significant flag is now on display at the Ontario House in Youngstown after it was discovered by Edmund Janiszewski.

He believes the flag belonged to the last surviving Spanish-American war veteran before his death.

"I was just driving by, it was on Upper Mountain Road, an estate sale sign, stopped in and boom there it was," Janiszewski said. "Finding a 45 star flag peaked my interest particularly, with the fact that it was the last surviving member of the 13th U.S. infantry."

Janiszewski says the 13th U.S. infantry fought alongside Teddy Roosevelt at the Battle of San Juan Hill.
