BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Hundreds of basketball players took to courts across Buffalo to raise funds for an organization that promotes fitness, education and community giving.

The tenth annual Ballin' for a Cause National Basketball tournament began on Friday and featured Youth, Women's and Men's divisions.

Scholarships for the 2017-18 school year were awarded to several program participants. An awards ceremony also honored professionals making an impact in the community.

"We utilize the basketball tournament as the awareness piece," said Founder and CEO Lindsey Taylor. "So we bring in teams from all over the world and all over the United States and we pump it up and that helps us raise money for the cause and raise awareness for the cause. We wanted to establish an event here in the community, from community members that is giving back to the community as a whole."

Sen. Tim Kennedy was also on hand to congratulate the organization on their tenth anniversary.
