$25 Million Toward Shoring Up Security Against Hate Crimes

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Synagogues, mosques, community centers and a rainbow of other facilities that could face acts of hate are eligible for a share of $25 million in the New York state budget to help shore up security for at-risk facilities.

Assemblyman Sean Ryan made the announcement Thursday at the Buffalo Jewish Community Center, a facility that was on high alert following a bomb threat in February, but also eligible for the state support are places like the Pride Center on Elmwood Avenue.

Ryan says the money will be available this fiscal year, organizations will have to apply for the funds. The program is administered by the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services.
