RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Carolina Hurricanes are holding their annual Prospect Development Camp this week from Tuesday to Saturday.

"It's pretty impressive everyone that's here, it's awesome and I feel that way for the last few years and it's pretty exciting here," said 2016 first round pick Jake Bean.

"I'm trying to prepare for the NHL every day, try to work hard, getting stronger and work on my skills on the ice," added 2017 first round pick Martin Necas.

Along with ice time, the players will go through off-ice training and education sessions. Though it was early on in prospect camp, two players stood out, and for good reason: this year's number 2 overall pick Andrei Svechnikov, and last's year's first round pick Necas were paired together. They're being looked to as two cornerstones of the Canes future.

"That was not a mistake that we threw them together, it was just for fun, just to seem sometimes it happens right away," Coach Rod Brind'Amour said, speaking of the chemistry between the two. "That's what you're hoping for, that's obviously two pretty important pieces to this franchise."

When asked how he has grown since being drafted by the Canes, Necas remarked, "I've improved my defensive game, I improved my faceoff which is really important in the NHL."

"Martin is a great player, he is really fast and a great player it's going to be great playing with him", Svechnikov admitted. "I'm honored to be here and to be with a group of guys that are very good and good young prospects."

The week will conclude with "Summerfest" on Saturday, including the Canes prospect game at noon on Saturday.
