NORTH CAROLINA -- Sunshine has dominated our holiday weekend but it has done little to combat the cold air.

  • Highs will be in the ballpark of 50 degrees for the Greensboro-Triad area
  • The Raleigh area will likely experience highs in the low 50s while the Fayetteville area will in the mid to upper 50s
  • A cold front currently sweeping across the Midwest will impact the Carolinas Monday and Tuesday

Northerly cool, dry air has limited temperatures to well below normal levels the past few days and that trend will continue today.

Highs will be in the ballpark of 50 degrees for the Greensboro-Triad area. Temperatures will be slightly high just over to the east in the the Triangle and Sandhills. Expect highs ranging from the low to upper 50s.

The Raleigh area will likely experience highs in the low 50s while the Fayetteville area will in the mid to upper 50s.

High pressure will be with us all day today, but begin to move offshore this evening and tonight. So, mostly sunny skies today will begin to to turn cloudy tonight and overnight.

With the high leaving, the door will open for our next storm system to enter the region. An area of low pressure out of the Gulf followed by a cold front currently sweeping across the Midwest will impact the Carolinas Monday and Tuesday.

Monday will likely start off dry with a good mix of sun and clouds. Clouds will become dominate by the early afternoon as rain enters the area. Showers and storms will likely remain an issue from Monday evening through much of the day Tuesday as the cold front marches through.

Skies will clear late Tuesday into early Wednesday morning as another shot of cold air injects itself into the Carolinas. Highs will fall from near 60 Tuesday down into the mid 40s Wednesday. Lows Wednesday night will likely dip into the mid to upper 20s possibly prompting another round of Freeze Warnings for the state.
