CARY, N.C. – A mother is facing a child abuse charge after her 5-month-old son was found dead inside her home in September.

30-year-old Myechia Avery was arrested Saturday in the death of her infant son Benjamin Avery.

According to police, Benjamin was found unresponsive inside Avery's Cheswick Place home on September 18. He was taken to an area hospital where he later passed away.          

In addition to the child abuse charge, Avery is also charged with involuntary manslaughter. Avery is facing a up to eight years in prison if convicted.
