Ahead of that storm system, showers developed in parts of the state early Monday morning. Those showers should come to an end through mid-morning leaving mostly cloudy conditions for Monday afternoon. High temperatures will range from the mid 60s across the Triangle to the low 70s south and southeast of Raleigh.
Late Monday a line of severe storms will develop across portions of Tennessee and Mississippi. That line should approach western North Carolina early Tuesday morning. The storms may briefly weaken just east of the mountains but are expected to strengthen over central North Carolina by early afternoon.
The greatest chance for storms for the Triangle and Sandhills Tuesday will come between noon and 6pm. Some of the storms will be capable of producing damaging wind gusts along with brief downpours. There is also a slight risk for an isolated tornado.
Tuesday afternoon's temperatures will range from the mid 70s in the Triangle to near 80 in the Sandhills.
