A storm system that has produced severe weather from Texas to Mississippi from Wednesday through early Thursday morning will eventually bring rain to North Carolina by the end of this week.  The threat for severe weather is lower here, but a few strong storms cannot be ruled out Friday afternoon.

Ahead of that storm system, most of Thursday will be dry.  We will see increasing cloudiness through the day with just a slight chance for a few isolated showers by late afternoon and evening.  Temperatures will warm to the mid and upper 70s.  A few locations in the Sandhills and near the South Carolina border could hit 80.

This Friday will not feature all day rain like last Friday.  Instead, we will see a few spotty showers in the morning.  Then look for a line or two of showers and storms passing through the region along a cold front Friday afternoon and evening.

Low risk for severe storms Friday

The Storm Prediction center has placed central and eastern North Carolina under a "marginal risk" for severe storms Friday.  That is the lowest level on their five level risk scale.  While a widespread severe weather outbreak is certainly not expected, a few storms could produce damaging wind gusts.  That threat will mainly come Friday afternoon and evening.

Much of central North Carolina should see around a quarter to one inch of rain Friday.  The showers and storms should come to an end Friday night.

Sunshine will return Saturday with highs in the 60s.  Temperatures will drop to near 40 and the low 40s for late Saturday night and early Sunday morning.

Sunday's forecast is now a bit uncertain.  The day should start with some sunshine.  One computer model then brings showers into the area from the coast by afternoon.  Other models suggest the rain will not arrive until late Sunday night or Monday.
