ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. -- The U.S. Coast Guard is actively supporting the response efforts in the aftermath of Florence.

As of Sunday, crews rescued 193 people and 91 pets in North Carolina since the storm first touched down.

Crews have performed rescues through their helicopter crews and the Shallow Water Response Team. Air operations are being set out of Elizabeth City and Savannah.

Over 3,000 Coast Guard members are responding to Hurricane Florence.

“We are an agile and adaptive force, no matter the mission. Over the past 24 hours, Coast Guard men and women have saved lives, rescued pets, helped restore power, and teamed with local, state and federal partners in the whole-of-government response to Florence. We are America’s first responders. We are Always Ready," said Coast Guard Commandant Admiral Karl Schultz.
