Tomaris Parker and Deshon Carrington made their first appearances Monday morning.
Last Thursday, Durham police say the two men stole a car at gunpoint and fled. Police followed them.
The stolen car later crashed into two cars in a residential neighborhood killing 24-year-old Detention Officer Brooke Lyn Maynard.
According to search warrants, Parker told police he was under the influence of crack cocaine and alcohol when he drove the car.
A vigil was held for Maynard Monday evening at Calvary Free Will Baptist Church in Durham.
Mourners say she was a really hard worker who turned her life around.
“She always made me feel very welcomed. She loved her daughter more than anything in this world,” said Allison Ange.
Carrington is charged with possessing a stolen vehicle. His bond was set at $100,000.
Both suspects will come back to court later this month.
