Monday was just a warm-up to a few days of hot temperatures and high humidity.

We are expecting temperatures to range through the 90s across the region with a few 100 degree reading possible. The exception would be along the immediate coast where highs will peak in the mid to upper 80s.

Combine highs in the 90s with dew points in the 70s and we will see Heat Index Values ranging from 105 to 109 degrees. These conditions have prompted a Heat Advisory to be issued across most of central and eastern North Carolina until 8pm.

The high temperatures and humidity will put us at risk for heat. To beat the heat, drink plenty of water, stay in air-conditioning, stay out of the sun and don’t forget to check on relatives and neighbors. Keep pets inside if possible and make sure they have plenty of fresh water.

If you do have to work or spend time outside take extra precautions such as rescheduling strenuous activities for early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing and, of course, stay hydrated.

Temperatures will inch down into the upper 80s to low 90s by the end of the work week due to an increasing rain chance.
