CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.C. -- A picture of  two people dressed up like Ku Klux Klan members was airdropped to the phones of some students at Cape Fear High School on Friday.

  • Happened at Cape Fear High School during a ceremony for seniors
  • Students say it made them upset
  • School system plans to investigate

The incident happened during an awards ceremony for the school's seniors. The Cumberland County School System says that a student at the school used an app with bluetooth technology to access the picture. Students say they were upset that their ceremony had been violated.

"Yes, it does make me mad," said Hosanna Bell, a senior at  Cape Fear High School. "Like you know, it's pretty much just rude. You don't do that at a ceremony."

The school system says they are conducting a thorough investigation of how this happened. They say any further disciplinary consequences will be determined by the kind of information they gather in the investigation.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office also tells Spectrum News they received a report about this incident, but since they believe no laws were broken, they will not be investigating the situation any further.
